European Poker Websites Sites Boom; Australian Looking Up, by Greg Tingle - 25th April 2011

Online poker websites traffic; Shares Boom - Players Triggered By UIGEA charges

European poker websites, pretty much immune to the issues in the United States, have reported a boom in player activity following the indictment by American authorities of the owners of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.

American land based casino and resort tycoon Steve Wynn, a long time detractor of online casinos, had overseen a deal with PokerStars inked on approx 25th March, but only two weeks took the option to get out of the deal after PokerStars got named in what is now known in gambling circles as 'Black Friday'. Wynn's press release read:

LAS VEGAS, April 15, 2011—Wynn Resorts, Limited announced today thаt іt terminated іtѕ alliance wіth PokerStars, thе online poker company. Thе сhοісе wаѕ reached аѕ a result οf thе indictment unsealed bу thе U.S. Attorney fοr thе Southern District οf Nеw York.

Online casino websites such as bwin.party digital entertainment's PartyCasino are also understood to be up following the announcement.

Since the US Attorney's Office announced last Friday that it was pressing charges against 11 people over alleged fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling, PKR has seen a rise of around 21% in weekly traffic, while PartyPoker has risen 9%, 888Poker 5% and the iPoker network 4%. In contrast, Full Tilt dropped 48%. The data comes from our friends at Pokerscout.

Several business-savvy poker rooms have launched major promos to capitalize on the unique situation.

Shares in several British online gambling companies have soared in the last week. Bwin shares rose by 30%, 888 was up 18% and online gaming software provider Playtech saw its stocks climb by 8%.

Many media companies including Forbes, Reuters, Bloomberg, Gambling911 and EGR indicate that bwin.party digital entertainment may be the igaming company that ends up doing best out of the situation, given their recent successful merger, settlement with the US Department of Justice in April 2009, and government b2b dealings in a number of countries. Party is also looking to expand is b2b and news media deals with its World Poker Tour brand, currently broadcast in Australia on Rupert Murdoch's Fox Sports via Foxtel subscriber television.

Richard Branson's Virgin Games is watching the situation closely, however as of print Virgin Games are not available to Australians, New Zealanders or Canadians, whereas Party is.

Australian land based casino, Crown Casino in Melbourne, has accepted numerous PartyGaming - PartyPoker satellite poker players over the past few years, a trend that looks to continue. Party and NetGen Gaming are strongly rumoured to want to release a Kerry Packer, Underbelly and Andre The Giant online slot game, but have not publicly commented. Party has existing b2b deals with Marvel Entertainment, Paramount Pictures, Infinity Ward, StudioCanal, Frank Sinatra Enterprises and Edgar Rice Burroughs, so don't bet against them.

Crown Limited top brass James Packer is yet to publicly comment specifically about online casino or online poker, but he did however sign off an investment deal with online retailing giant DealsDirect.

Ellerston Capital, a fund management company owned by the Packer family's Consolidated Press Holdings, took a “minority cornerstone” investment in the online retailing site DealsDirect yesterday.

“It signals a real coming of age for online retail, with businesses like Ellerston getting into the game, it is well and truly 'game on',” said DealsDirect's co-founder Paul Greenberg.

The transaction, estimated by the Australian Financial Review to be worth $10 million, underscores the deeper embrace of online retail by the media sector and the investment community.

A Media Man spokesperson said of the Packer - Deals Direct deal "James Packer's recent investment into the online retail space shows just how keen he is on the online business. Crown Limited have an impressive portfolio of websites for their properties, however that did not do the man or company justice. Crown Casino Aussie Millions also accepts poker players from a number of online poker brands. Packer also has the 50% investment in Betfair, and rumours persist of a Crown online casino, a venture with a strong possibility of Packer mate Shane Warne getting in on the action. Packer is also keen to see more interaction between Australian television broadcasts of poker on Fox Sports and his traditional media ventures. Mr Packer famously went on recent a few years ago with 'Internet is like electricity', something this very news reports proves correct".

PartyCasino Gets New Games And Promos: The Sting

The Sting has arrived at PartyCasino

PartyCasino.com has recently introduced a new Gold Jackpot slot game ‘The Sting.’ This hexagon based game features buzzing busy bees and has a pleasant sting in its tail with an expanding honeystick wild and free spins! PartyCasino.com has the most frequent game launches in the industry and offers over 160 games, including over 100 slots. PartyCasino.com pays out easily over $10 million EVERY DAY to players.

Game objective:

Sting is a hexagons based game that consists of a draw area of fixed 24 hexagons which will rotate and then stop, producing a random symbol. This game has no pay lines. The player receives a payout for connecting and matching symbol groups anywhere on the hexagons draw area. The player gets wins when there are 4 or more matching connecting symbol groups (anywhere on the draw area) and the game pays up to 12 or more symbol combinations. This creates a large variety of wins (over 100,000 possible ways to win!). The game features an expanding Honey stick wild symbol. Wherever this symbol appears on the reel, it will turn all the symbols straight below it to wild. This game also features a Show Me The Honey feature which awards the users with free spins and multipliers. It is possible to win quarter of a Million in one spin on this game by playing the maximum stake and getting a group of 12 or more symbols of a few selected types.

Game Information:

The minimum bet amount is $1 USD and the maximum bet amount is $500USD.

Gold jackpot:

'Gold Jackpot' consists of four jackpots at different levels; the levels are - from the lowest to the highest - Gold Blitz Jackpot, Gold Quick Jackpot, Gold Super Jackpot and Gold Mega Jackpot. All four jackpots grow progressively as bets are made. For each spin, the house adds a small credit to the four running jackpots. All four levels in Gold Jackpot can be won irrespective of hitting any winning combination, while betting any amount. Each jackpot level is reset to its individual seed value after any player hits that particular jackpot. The seed value will be the value that is set by Party Gaming.

How to play:

The amount you are staking will be shown at the bottom of the screen between the "-" and "+" buttons.
Use these two buttons to choose a stake between MIN and MAX limits specified above.
Setting 'STAKE': When you enter the game, a default bet of $X USD is selected. The stake is displayed at the bottom of the screen below the reels. Gambling And Casino Scene And Gossip Down Under, by Greg Tingle - 17th April 2011

Australian gambling news continues at fever pitch. It's fun and games all the way with lovers vs haters, casino attacks, new games, casino revamps, stars touring Aussie casinos and more. Media Man and Gambling911 with your down under gambling report...

Aussie Welfare Cheats To Repay Big Brother $9 Million Punted At Casinos...

Single Aussie mums and pensioner getter's on welfare benefits, be it "the pension" or "the dole", will be forced to cough up $9 million bucks after they were found leading "double lives" as high-rolling casino gamblers. That's the story coming out of big brother, but how much is true and how much is spin is yet to be fully determined. A federal investigation has snatched 521 tax cheats, with authorities suspecting some of laundering money for crims. Cheats told Centrelink they needed welfare payments to survive on, but some were living it up tossing around $100,000 plus a year at Australian land based casinos. Some high-rollers "pseudo VIP's" have been charged and sentenced to home detention, while some other punters await charges. 15 welfare recipients were referred to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions suspected of committing fraud. The word is that they be forced to pay back big brother, but how do you get blood out of a stone. Some punters claim the moolah is spent while others have no traceable assets. 32 Queensland based banana benders will have to repay almost $500,000 bucks. In New South Wales, 128 cheats owe big brother in express of $2.2 million, while 279 Victorians owe close to $5 million. One NSW millionaire, who tried to hid his income, has on welfare for numerous years, snatching roughly $96,000 in age pension payments. Federal legislation requires casinos to provide information to law enforcement agencies about patrons who regularly gamble large amounts of money. Human Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said Centrelink did not count winnings as income if welfare recipients just had the occasional good day on the punt. "But people who can afford to regularly gamble large sums of money at the same time as receiving government assistance are required to prove they aren't concealing assets and income," Ms Plibersek said. "By cross-referencing casino high-roller information with Centrelink customers, Centrelink is identifying people who may be concealing assets or income, wrongly claiming benefits and even laundering money." Centrelink reviewed 1052 cases of suspected high-rollers in the past 3 years before demanding 521 welfare recipients repay more than $9 million. Federal Independent Senator Nick Xenophon said pre-commitment measures for pokies whereby gamblers would have to sign up and determine how much money they could lose before they start playing would help law enforcement. "Criminals are laundering millions of dollars through the poker machines each year. These reforms will put an end to this," Senator Xenophon said. It's a 3 way dance - Man VS Machine VS Big Brother - who will emerge victorious and where exactly will the money trial lead?

"Wicked" (Satire) Wilkie Won't Apologise For Hitler Scandal...

Andrew Wilkie says he will not apologise to the man who has accused him of ordering cadets to salute Hitler because he can't recall. Not recalling is an oldie, but a goodie, of Australian and American politicians, often when the s hits the fan, and its a smart, but unethical answer. Ex army cadet Brendan Etches claims the independent MP ordered him to salute the 50th anniversary of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's rise to power, when they were at Duntroon Military College in the 1980s. Etches wants Wilkie to apologise for the incident when the pair meet early this week.
He also wants an apology for suggestions that he was part of a smear campaign by the pro-poker machine lobby to discredit Wilkie. Wilkie says he's "looking forward" to meeting Etches, and talk about his concerns. "But I won't be able to apologise to him for an incident I have no memory of," he told Network Ten. Wilkie says that's not a political "cop-out", noting that he has already apologised for charges of bastardisation at Duntroon. "I was bastardised, I was a bastard," he said, acknowledging that his behaviour was "appalling and wrong". Wilkie claims the poker machine industry is behind a smear campaign against him, including death threats and blackmail. "As a general rule (politicians) wouldn't talk about such threats," he said, responding to criticism from coalition MPs about going public with the death threat. "But this most recent threat was different, it came on the day that the poker machine industry launched its $20 million campaign against me," he said, noting that he has received numerous death threats in public life. Wilkie is "very confident" the proposed pre-commitment gambling scheme will have the support of federal parliament. "We need four votes (in the lower house), I'm one, the (Australian) Greens are one, (independent) Bob Katter's already indicated support." "We are almost there with just those three votes," he said, citing confidence that regional MP Tony Windsor would change his stance and back the reforms. Nationals Senate leader Barnaby Joyce is raising the possibility of compensation for the many clubs and pubs that have bought poker machines and might be unable to rely on the income. Senator Joyce says it not as simple as clamping down on addicts. "A lot of places rely on them for income streams in regional towns where they are instrumental in delivering a whole heap of services including sporting fields, venues, to the town," Senator Joyce told ABC television. "But no one likes the mess of someone who sits in the corner and puts the family's savings or the family's income down the slot. Senator Joyce said it was vital both sides of the argument were understood before any action was taken. "A lot of people have paid a lot of money for poker machines and if you start removing the capacity for them to earn money from a federal sphere I suppose the federal government has to compensate those clubs for it. "There's a whole heap of aspects to this debate that have to be considered." Political fun and games continue.

Katy Perry Will Play TV Week Logies At Melbourne's Crown Casino...

Katy Perry has just been confirmed to open the awards ceremony at Melbourne's Crown Casino complex on May 1, performing her chart-topping hit - 'Firework'. No, its not a dream - its real! Perry will be in Australia as part of her California Dreams World Tour, with sold-out performances at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on May 4 and 14. Classical music superstar Andre Rieu is rumoured to attend the Logies, with 'tween heartthrob Justin Bieber also in Australia. Shane Bourne will be the host, and awards will be presented by Chris Lilley, Karl Stefanovic, Sarah Murdoch, Lisa McCune, Deborah Mailman, Shane Jacobson and Megan Gale. Twitters will be likely blocked after last years Twitter-Gate.

Crown Casino Logie Awards Banned From Twittering...

Mobile phones will not be allowed at this year's Logie Awards ceremony to avoid the Twitter-Gate deal that overshadowed last year's event, a spokesperson said. Invitations to the 53rd Annual Logie Awards on May 1 at Melbourne's Crown Entertainment Complex, say at the bottom: "Please note, mobiles will not be permitted. Your co-operation is appreciated." A Logies spokeswoman told ABC News Online the ban was put in place because of the tweeting that detracted from TV's 'night of nights' last year. "Bags are not being searched or anything; we're just expecting guests to observe that request," she said. Controversial comedian Catherine Deveny was sacked by The Age following her attacks on stars which were posted on Twitter during last year's Logies. The comments posted by Deveny on Twitter were as variously described as "offensive" and "vulgar". Deveny wrote that she hoped 11-year-old Bindi Irwin "gets laid" and that former talk show host Rove McManus's wife Tasma "didn't die too"...referring to the loss of McManus's first wife, Belinda Emmett, to cancer in 2006. Comedian Wil Anderson's Logies tweets also drew criticism. Media Man was one of hundreds of media outlets that spread the Twitter-Gate story worldwide, with assistance of Gambling911, Wires and Google News.

Tabcorp Granted Demerger Approval...

Tabcorp got the not from court to move forward with its demerger into separate casino and gaming businesses. Paperwork lodged with the stock exchange show that as part of the demerger, outgoing Tabcorp boss Elmer Funke Kupper will receive a payout of up to $5.5 million. The scheme booklet also gives the strongest indication yet that Tabcorp will sue the Victorian government over the loss of pokies licences, worth $687 million, due to expire in August next year. Shareholders will vote on the proposal in Melbourne on June 1. If shareholders approve ,they will receive one share in the new casino group, Echo Entertainment Group, for each Tabcorp share they hold and Echo will then be listed on the ASX. Kupper's golden handshake is made up of a $3 million termination payout and up to $2.5 million in shares. He will step down after the demerger, and rejoin the board as a non-executive director after a six-month break. Tabcorp has long maintained that it should be paid a $687 million break fee within a week of any new Victorian poker machine licences that are being issued. But, when he was in office, ex premier John Brumby consistently said Tabcorp was not entitled to compensation. "Tabcorp intends to pursue all of its rights and take all appropriate action in respect of the payment," Tabcorp said in the scheme booklet lodged yesterday. However, the company warned that if the matter went before the courts "the outcome cannot be predicted with any certainty. Despite its strong resolve to pursue this matter, Tabcorp may ultimately not succeed in recovering the payment from the Victorian government", it said. Most analysts agree the demerger deal is a great move from Tabcorp, that will both spread risk, raise money, and show investors that they are moving with the times, not to rest on their laurels. It will also be a point of difference with competitor, Crown Casino. The Aussie casino wars continue.

Snoop Dogg In The House At Jupiters Hotel & Casino, Gold Coast...

Snoop Dog did Jupiters Hotel & Casino Friday when the rap and hip hop star played a 4-hour plus poolside DJ set for 300 fans to officially launch his new album, Doggumentary, in Australia. Snoop took the stage at 6.25pm an hour and a half earlier than his scheduled 8pm start. Performing as DJ Snoopadelic, the Yankee rapper started with a old-school funk, disco and Motown mixed with numbers by Michael Jackson, Rihanna and JaythZ. His nephew our tour buddy' Bow Wow' acted as MC, urging the crowd to make more noise. "Are there any "real' Snoop fans here". Snoop turned up the volume on some house tracks always a sure-fire hit with Gold Coast clubbers including DJ duo Duck Sauce's hit Barbra Streisand. Later in the night Snoop Dogg was joined in a roped-off VIP area, and onstage, by a bush tucker bag of his Supafest R'n'B festival mates. Nelly, The Game, Timbaland, T Pain, New Boyz and Snoop's dad were also in the house. Snoop told the crowd he was filming a clip for a track from his Doggumentary, his 11th studio album, at the pool party. Released in Australia on Friday, the 21-track album features collaborations with everyone from Bow Wow to Gorillaz, Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy and country star Willie Nelson. The poolside party included a special Snoop-inspired menu of beef sliders, Snoop Doggs (sausages on sticks), chicken waffles and baby back pork ribs. Snoop and the gang, who played the Brisbane leg of Supafest, at the RNA Showgrounds are understood to be hitting Melbourne within the next 12 hours. Play hard and party harder. Snoop Dogg in the houssssssse.

Aussies love to try their luck. Sure, spin to win, but know the odds, and have fun.

Punters, er readers, stay glued to Media Man reports via Gambling911 for more "can't miss" information on Australian pokies and gaming wars.

Australian Gambling News Round-up Part II, by Greg Tingle - 15th April 2011

Australian gambling and casino news keeps coming thick and fast. Media Man and Gambling911 with the news you love to hate...

Jupiters Hotel and Casino Gold Coast Get Snoop Dogg...

Snoop Doggy attended a press conference at Jupiters Hotel and Casino yesterday wearing red slippers he snatched while in town. When quizzed whether he spent $25,000 grand in the store with his homeboys Nelly, Busta Rhymes, Game and nephew Bow Wow, the 39-year-old let the truth slip. "Actually it was the other way around as they gave us $25,000," he said let loose. Snoop, renowned for enjoying recreational herbs, said if he headed to Nimbin he would "expect $50,000". Police decided best to shut down the eastern side of the Southport street when Snoop and the boyz checked out shops. Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus), is in Australia to promote his new album Doggumentary and plays a poolside party at Jupiters Casino tomorrow. Snoop, who is 'good friends' with Aussie actor Russell Crowe, said he's had the opportunity to watch AFL and the other Australian football codes but doesn't think he will partake. "I love watching it, but I'd never play it because it seems like I'd get f***** up quick."

Star City Casino Ralph Model Kahili Blundell Delighted...

She won at 'Sin City' Star City and now the world might be at her feet. Manly Vale’s Kahili Blundell has won the 2011 Ralph Australian Swimwear Model of the Year competition, beating 37 finalists. Ms Blundell won the title after just three years of modelling. “I was absolutely speechless when I won,” she told The Manly Daily. “No words can explain how I felt when they came around to the winner’s spot and said my number, which was 27, I just couldn’t believe it. “I was so overwhelmed because I wanted it so badly.” The 21-year-old, who has drawn comparisons to Jennifer Hawkins, went through regional qualifying in November before claiming the title over 2000 beauties from Australia and New Zealand. Ms Blundell spent most of last week with the other finalists, being judged not only on her physique and presentation, but also on how she conducted herself during daily media interviews. For the former Mackellar Girls Campus student, who runs her own make-up studio between working in office administration, the win is a far cry from three years ago when she started modelling as a drinks promotion girl. “I’m not too sure what’s happening next but having this title will help me get my foot in the door to bigger and better things,” she said. But Ms Blundell, who recently moved to Cremorne, isn’t the only one basking in the title glory. Boyfriend Nick Taylor, who plays league for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the NSW Cup, said he had an extra spring in his step since his partner won. “Yeah, I’ve got some bragging rights around training,” he said. “I think the other boys in the team are a bit jealous.” Ms Blundell won $16,000 worth of cash and prizes, and will feature on the cover of the 2012 Ralph Australian Swimwear Model of the Year Calendar.

Aussie Cody Simpson To Perform At Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom; New Hampshire...

As a kid growing up on Australia's Gold Coast, Simpson used to watch his dad play guitar and sing for friends and family at parties and backyard barbecues. Seeing how music brought people together, Cody asked for his own guitar and lessons at the age of seven. After learning a few chords from his teacher, Cody wrote his first song. "It was about putting a diaper on a chicken," he says with a laugh. "Who knows what my seven-year-old brain was thinking?" Cody's folks encouraged him to keep singing and practicing his guitar. By age 12, he began posting YouTube videos of himself performing covers of songs by artists who inspired him, including Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz, and The Jacksons. Search for Cody on YouTube and there he is: An appealing blonde 12-year-old accompanying himself on guitar while knocking out stellar covers of "Cry Me A River," "I'm Yours," and "I Want You Back." Cody's YouTube Channel, which has been active since August 2008, now boasts nearly 4.5 million views and has more than 42,000 subscribers. In 2009, Cody received a message through his YouTube Channel from songwriter and producer Shawn Campbell (Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Ciara) expressing interest in meeting him. Cody and his father flew to the U.S. to meet Campbell and write and record some tracks. In April 2010, Cody signed with Atlantic Records, which is releasing his irresistible rhythmic pop single "iYiYi" featuring Flo Rida on June 1st. "Flo and I worked with some amazing people including Colby O'Donis, Bei Major and DJ FrankE on my debut single" Cody says. "We came up with something really catchy. And I think everyone can relate to the lyrics. The song is about liking a girl and missing her when she's not around. Who hasn't been through that?" Tickets are $18 for this all ages show. Doors open at 6 p.m.; show at 7 p.m.

Australian Anti-Gambling MP Andrew Wilkie Accused Of Ordering Cadets To Salute Hitler!...

One of the driving forced behind the anti-pokie brigade in Parliament; Andrew Wilkie has now been accused of ordering teenage army cadets to salute the 50th anniversary of Hitler's rise to power in Nazi Germany. Not good timing for MP Wilkie. Last night he conceded he was involved in "bastardisation" at Duntroon Military College in 1983. As a senior cadet at Duntroon that year Wilkie was one of a group that allegedly ordered junior cadets to stand to attention and salute to commemorate Hitler becoming Germany's Chancellor on January 30, 1933. When one defiant junior cadet refused to stand at attention in honour of Nazis, Wilkie allegedly allowed other senior cadets to abuse and punish him. In a statement yesterday Mr Wilkie said he had "no recollection" of the Hitler incident but admitted he was one of "many cadets caught up in the 1983 bastardisation scandal at Duntroon and like many cadets was disciplined for it at the time". A Defence Department spokesperson last night said the department could not comment on specific details of individuals "for privacy reasons".

Australian Gambling News Round-up, by Greg Tingle - 15th April 2011

Australian gambling and casino news keeps coming thick and fast. We've got a butcher who slayed his wife over a gambling argument, Tabcorp numbers, pokie lovers vs haters, James Packer's boat for sale, and much more. Media Man and Gambling911 with your regular Aussie gambling fix...

Melbourne Man Butchers Wife Over Gambling...

Butcher Peter Lubik, 42, severed his wife Barbara's carotid artery when he stabbed her in the throat at their Melbourne home in January 2009. It's been described as a "shocking and cowardly" killing. Prior to the the stabbing they had fought about Lubik, who was understood to have been a big gambler, going to a casino, the Victorian Supreme Court heard on Wednesday. Last year, Lubik was found guilty by a jury of manslaughter but acquitted of murder. On Wednesday, Justice Ross Robson jailed Lubik for 9.5 years and ordered he serve a minimum of 6.5 years. Justice Robson said Lubik, of Noble Park North, deliberately stabbed his wife in a very delicate area of the body. He rejected Lubik's defence that his wife had come at him with the knife, finding that only Lubik had a knife. "Your deliberate stabbing of Barbara involved a deliberate intention to harm her," Justice Robson said. "It was a shocking and cowardly crime. You were duty-bound to protect her. "You are a big man. She was small. "There was not the slightest justification for taking up a knife against her in her own home." Justice Robson said Mrs Lubik constantly forgave her husband's abusive, "bullying and boorish" behaviour. "Despite her loyalty, love, forgiveness and companionship, you cruelly and deliberately stabbed her, with a knife, killing her," he said. "I can discern no reason for your conduct, other than your repeated abuse and bullying of your wife." Lubik's two-and-a-half-year marriage had been a turbulent one and included physical violence, the court heard. Lubik was a "good husband" unless he had been drinking. Mrs Lubik came to Australia from Poland in 2004. Lubik has already served more than two years and two months in custody.

James Packer Boat For Sale: $22 million...

Gambling and media king James Packer has put up for sales his 46m motor yacht, Z Sydney, on the market. The vessel is being advertised with an asking price of $22 million. That's about the same price it was bought for by JP back in January of last year. Rumour is that yachts name has been changed to "Ares" (Greek god of war) in attempt to lure in European buyers. The big boat can fit 12 guests and 8 crew. Leaks reckon he's looking to upgrade.

Sin City Sydney's Star City Wants To Take Brownlow AFL Event From Melbourne's Crown Casino...

The AFL code is in talks with the New South Wales Government to take the iconic Brownlow Medal night to 'Sin City' Sydney next year. Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu told the press that if the AFL even thinking about moving its awards night from Melbourne, it would show it is out of touch with Victorian football lovers. The shift would coincide with the launch of Sydney's second AFL team. An $850 million revamp of Sydney's Star City casino is the key in the bid to host the event. A grand hall in the redevelopment will hold up to 4,000 people. That does rather outdo Crown's Palladium, which has a 1,700 capacity. Will the rumor turn to reality? Time will tell, but many celebs keep saying they like it at Crown... and looking forward to doing some Twittering about it also.

Tabcorp 3rd Quarter Up 5.4%...

Gambling giant Tabcorp Holdings Ltd has reported a 5.4% rise in normalised net revenue for the March quarter. Normalised net revenues for the 3 months ended March 31 was $1.06 billion, up 5.4% on the previous corresponding period, Melbourne-based Tabcorp said in a statement on Wednesday. Revenue growth for the first nine months of the financial year was 3.9% to $3.32 billion. All 3 business divisions achieved positive revenue growth. The casinos division experienced revenue growth of 5.9%, wagering's grew 2.6% and gaming gained 8.6%. Revenues in wagering were adversely affected by wet weather in January and early February with abandoned race meetings and reduced field sizes due to the state of the tracks, the company said. Tabcorp said its plans to demerge its casinos business was progressing with shareholders to vote on it in June this year. In Queensland, the January floods impacted significantly on the performance of the Treasury Casino and Hotel during the quarter. Star City Casino in Sydney grew normalised revenues by 11.3 per cent and the other Queensland casinos recorded positive revenue growth. Tabcorp chief executive Elmer Funke Kupper said in a statement that trading in the third quarter was pleasing, in light of the Queensland floods. The recent floods on Australia's east coast had wiped $10 million from its revenue, the company said last month. In better news, last month Tabcorp was awarded Victoria's new exclusive 10-year Keno licence, which will start in April 2012. "Revenue growth in the third quarter improved over the first half of the financial year, which indicates that the businesses are resilient and have good underlying momentum," Kupper said.

PM Gillard Still Hates Pokies...

Julia Gillard stated on record that it's the "right thing" to crack down on problem gambling and she has seen the misery it causes in her own back yard. The PM holds the western Melbourne seat of Lalor, home to Victoria's number one venue for "one armed bandit" losses. "We know what it's like to see people who put so much money into poker machines that they break the family budget, they can't feed the kids. They end up with their houses being repossessed," Gillard said. "Now, that kind of problem gambling causes human misery. I don't think we want to see anybody profiting on human misery. Of course people like to have a bet, but I don't think they like to see their fellow Australians suffer." Despite a $20 million campaign by clubs and hotels, Gillard said the Government would push ahead to introduce technology to require frequent gamblers to set, in advance, how much they would spend. Anti-pokies senator Nick Xenophon said he had lodged a complaint with the ACCC against the Clubs Australia campaign. In the meantime MP Wilkie reckons he got a genuine death threat from pro gambling folks. Clubs Australia have called him to prove it and to refer the matter for police.

Burswood In Line To Get New Sporting Stadium Next To Packer's Casino...

West Australian Premier Colin Barnett says a new football stadium for Perth is likely to be built at Burswood, just across the Swan River from the city's centre. But he says a final decision on the site, size and timing of the new stadium will not be made until mid-year. "Burswood is a probable site, maybe even a likely site, but I stress a decision has not been made, cabinet has not yet looked at the matter," he told the press on Wednesday. He said there would not be any announcement about a stadium in the budget in May, though funding would be set aside to do initial engineering tests at the sites and perhaps initial designs. The government has been looking at three different sites for a new stadium, including several different locations within the Burswood precinct. "Much of that area is an old waste site, so we've got to be very careful about that," Barnett said. "I think most people, from the reaction I get, do see a lot of merit in Burswood in the sense that this stadium, when it's built, has to serve the state for another 50 years." Mr Barnett said Burswood, the site of the city's casino, had space for more sporting and entertainment venues and that was in its favour. West Coast coach John Worsfold said he would leave the matter of a stadium to the experts, but the sentimental value of Subiaco would remain. With all of this happening little wonder James Packer remains such a big fan of Perth.

The Aussies continue to love to try their luck. Sure, spin to win, but know the odds, and have fun.

Bwin.party digital entertainment effected as Germany proposes tax, by Greg Tingle - 7th April 2011

Bwin.party digital entertainment Plc, the company formed by last month’s merger of Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG and PartyGaming Plc, dipped 16% in London trading after German states’ prime ministers proposed a 16.67% tax on the sports betting sector.

The dip was the greatest since the U.S. banned internet-gambling financial transactions back in 2006, sending PartyGaming down. Germany plans to bring ina 16.67% levy on sports bets when it introduces its sports-gambling market to private firms in 2012, the Saxony-Anhalt state government advised on its website, citing a meeting in Berlin yesterday.

The newly merged outfit snatches about 23% of its pro-forma revenue from Germany, with half coming from sports, according to David Jennings, an analyst with Dublin-based Davy. Bwin and PartyGaming combined March 31 to enter European markets as they regulate and tax online gambling.

"Clearly the proposals look a lot more severe and restrictive than the operators and the market would have hoped for," said Nick Batram, an analyst with Peel Hunt who has a "buy" recommendation on the stock. "It would significantly restrict the ability of bwin.party to make money in the German market."

Bwin.party dropped 31.5 pence to 166.4 pence, giving the firm a market value of 1.4 billion pounds ($2.3 billion).

"There is still a long way to go, and we are confident in the end Germany will comply with European Union law and implement a commercially viable licensing regime," said John Shepherd, a spokesman for bwin.party in a telephone call.

Other counties such Australia, Canada, United States and New Zealand look on with keen interest, with politicians and the business sector knowing that gaming is one of the most lucrative markets on a global scale and that full regulation with raise much needed cash for government cofers.

bwin-party's PartyCasino.com remains arguably the world's most popular and trusted online casino brand while PartyPoker.com is not the world's third most popular online poker brand.

bwin.party digital entertainment are currently considering mass media campaigns into a number of new markets, however have to get their legals done first, as to keep their growth on track with appropriate risk management

Casino News Media - Media Man: Broker snap: bwin.party has potential post merger

Press Release

5th April 2011

Broker snap: bwin.party has potential post merger

Panmure Gordon ups its target price for PartyGaming following its merger with bwin, saying that the newly-formed bwin.party Digital Entertainment has the potential to deliver above-average earnings growth, underpinned by €55m of merger synergies.

“Recent regulatory developments have been overwhelmingly positive for eGaming operators, in our view and we think eGaming stocks are well placed for a period of sustained outperformance,” said the broker.

Panmure estimates that bwin.party will be almost twice the size of its closest peers in 2012, and its scale benefits give it a significant advantage in the French and Italian poker markets, where the broker thinks it will be among the top three poker liquidity providers.

The broker keeps its ‘buy’ rating, but increases the target price from 275p to 288p.
